History buffs, science enthusiasts, backyard inventors, and anyone who has ever dared to dream big will find the life of Nikola Tesla, written in his own words, engaging, informative, and humorous in its eccentricity. Serbian inventor NIKOLA TESLA (1857-1943) was a revolutionary scientist who forever changed the scientific fields of electricity and magnetism. Tesla's greatest invention, A/C current, powers almost all of the technological wonders in the world today, from home heating to computers to high-tech robotics. His discoveries gave mankind the television. And his dream of wireless communication came to pass in both the radio and eventually the cell phone. Yet his story remains widely unknown.

About the Author
Nikola Tesla (1856 –1943) was an inventor, mechanical engineer, and electrical engineer. He was an important contributor to the birth of commercial electricity, and is best known for his many revolutionary developments in the field of electromagnetism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Tesla's patents and theoretical work formed the basis of modern alternating current (AC) electric power systems, including the polyphase system of electrical distribution and the AC motor. This work helped usher in the Second Industrial Revolution. Born an ethnic Serb in the village of Smiljan, in the Austrian Empire, Tesla was a subject of the Austrian Empire by birth and later became an American citizen. Because of his 1894 demonstration of wireless communication through radio and as the eventual victor in the "War of Currents", he was widely respected as one of the greatest electrical engineers who worked in America. He pioneered modern electrical engineering and many of his discoveries were of groundbreaking importance. In the United States during this time, Tesla's fame rivaled that of any other inventor or scientist in history or popular culture. Tesla demonstrated wireless energy transfer to power electronic devices as early as 1893, and aspired to intercontinental wireless transmission of industrial power in his unfinished Wardenclyffe Tower project. Because of his eccentric personality and his seemingly unbelievable and sometimes bizarre claims about possible scientific and technological developments, Tesla was ultimately ostracized and regarded as a mad scientist by many late in his life. Tesla never put much focus on his finances and died with little funds at the age of 86, alone in the two room hotel suite in which he lived, in New York City. The International System of Units unit measuring magnetic field B. In addition to his work on electromagnetism and electromechanical engineering, Tesla contributed in varying degrees to the establishment of robotics, remote control, radar, and computer science, and to the expansion of ballistics, nuclear physics, and theoretical physics.

I'm a big fan of the neurotic Mr. Tesla
By Crazie Betty
Nikola Tesla is one of my history crushes. I'm a huge science nerd and anything about Tesla is entertaining to me given he was the father of so many inventions that we still utilize today. Thomas Edison may get more fanfare than neurotic, eccentric and phobic Nik, but Nikola was truly the individual who pioneered so many of the electrical items that we use today. Thomas Edison just "commercialized" them more, so he got more wide-spread approval.
I will warn you that these are the autobiographical notes of Mr. Tesla so they are done in his own words. This book is very data heavy and there are A LOT of technical terms that most people aren’t going to understand unless you’ve studied them and/or have read a lot of material on the subject. That being said, it really feels like you’re listening to Tesla explain his inventions and visions. I could almost picture myself sitting in a parlor with him, smoking a cigar and drinking some whiskey whilst we discussed the implications of such uses for his different inventions.
I would highly recommend to anyone who is already a Tesla fan and has an existing knowledge of the sciences used by Tesla. If this is your first foray into his work, you might want to look elsewhere.

More the man, less the inventions
By Mark
Tesla was a remarkable man not only for his inventions, but also for his dedication and application. It is amazing to read of his "inner life" in a way rarely shared. I was moved by his story and inspired by the clarity and insight he brought to everything in his own life and to the world around us. If you want to find out about his inventions there is scant detail here, but if you want to gain and insight into the genius and humanity this book provides a brief glimpse.

Definitely worth reading
By A. Machiavelli
I liked it. Would have liked it to be longer and more in depth, but it is his autobiography and he wrote it as he saw fit.
Definitely worth buying and reading to understand how he thought and invented new technologies. I would have purchased it in book form if I'd known the kindle pictures would be so hard to see, even magnified.
Tesla does not make mention of his obsession with telepathic doves or aliens (something that happened to him later in life.) That
would have been interesting to read, I feel. Allegedly he reported to friends that his invention ideas were transmitted to him via telepathy allegedly from these sources, including his earlier inventions (Tesla coil, etc.) I suspect he was predisposed to a type of neurological illness similar to the gentleman in "A Beautiful Mind" who also, I am given to understand, felt many of his ideas came from outside sources. This type of disassociation may have allowed both of them to access and understand involved mathematical and engineering concepts in a savant-type way. Despite how it came about, they both undeniably gave us invaluable mathematical and physics principles that have been life-changing and useful to society to this very day. Tesla invented alternating current, as you know, as opposed to Edison's stubborn determination to stick to direct current. He is not vitriolic toward Edison in this book, which I found more than gracious considering other material I read on the great "alternating current vs. direct current" debate. I recommend this tome, but in book form, rather than kindle, so you can see the photos. diagrams and newspaper articles with greater clarity.
